Meet Your Pod Squad: Matt Halloran

Welcome to the latest edition of Meet Your PodSquad! Today, we’re talking to Matt Halloran, our chief relationship officer and in-house podcasting expert at ProudMouth.

If you’ve listened to our podcasts, reached out to our team, or started a podcast with us, you’ve heard from Matt! In his words, Matt’s either interviewing people about being their own loud –– or he’s talking to people about how we can help them be their own loud through podcasting!

Let’s get to know him a little more…

(Listen to Matt’s interview or keep reading!)

First things first! What do you enjoy about working at ProudMouth?

I love the people! We have worked really hard to create a culture here that is supportive, kind, and super customer friendly.

What’s a digital tool you use every day?

Screen-Cast-O-Matic! It is the best video tool I have used. My Microsoft Surface Pro is a pretty amazing machine. I have been a Mac guy for a long time. Not a huge fan of the OS, but it’s the machine Apple should have made a long time ago.

Which books have had a lasting impact on you?

Which TV shows and movies do you enjoy? Do you have any shows that you re-watch?

I watch movies a lot more than TV shows. I love “Parks and Rec” as a TV show, but I rewatch all Marvel movies, and my favorite movie of all time is “HellBoy.”

What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received about your work?

No one has ever asked me this question. Or, I’ve never thought about it like that before. My goal as an interviewer is to have the guest leave knowing something about themselves they didn’t know before I interviewed them. When a guest has a major epiphany during our interview, that is the biggest compliment I can receive!

Which Muppet are you? Why?

Gonzo, but I want to be Kermit! Kermit is so much more organized than Gonzo. I am just the strange guy who loves chickens!

What has surprised you the most about your podcasting experience?

The people who say yes to being interviewed on our shows! There were people who I never thought would say yes, who were amazing guests and are now advocates of our system.

What has been a very memorable experience so far on the Top Advisor Marketing Podcast?

Interviewing Bill Good from Bill Good’s Marketing System. I loved every minute of the wild journey he took me on!

In your approach to hosting podcasts, where do you draw inspiration from?

I have three idols:

  1. Oprah because of her ability to make people feel they are the only person in the room.
  2.  Phil Donohue because of how well he used silence and handled difficult conversations.
  3. Larry King who was fiercely determined to ask his guest the questions his audience wanted to know. He went into most interviews blind with very little research. It worked for him for 25 years!

What advice do you have for an expert who’s thinking about starting a podcast, but they’re questioning the ROI?

They are looking at influence the wrong way. Influence is modern marketing. It is not about ROI; ROI is short-term thinking.

It’s ROR = return on all relationships. Existing clients, your community, and your prospective clients.

Experts forget that the best marketing is the marketing they do to their existing clients, not trying to find new ones.

So you’re pretty much the face of our company! What advice do you have for companies who have yet to choose their spokesperson?

You have to have a person who unconditionally believes in what you do. They have to ooze your mission.

I love what we do. I am proud of what we do.  It is part of who we are, and I’m so lucky to be the person who gets to talk about it. I have always wanted to be the spokesperson for a company…never knew it would be one I was part owner of!
