Meet Your Pod Squad: Robyn Walter

Welcome to another edition of Meet Your Pod Squad! Today, we’re talking to Robyn Walter, our executive administrator.

Robyn oversees the production of our clients’ podcasts, including editing and publishing. So, yes, she is busy! But still, Robyn goes out of her way to make sure every client moves through the podcasting process with ease. And as someone who also coordinates tasks for the team, she keeps tabs on us all; if we fall off the path, she guides us back and keeps us moving forward.

Let’s get to know Robyn…

(Listen to Robyn’s interview with our CRO, Matt Halloran, or keep reading!)

Please describe a typical day in your life as an executive administrator at ProudMouth

Jam-packed! Busy, educational and, at times, chaotic and long.  But satisfying. What do I do during my typical day?  Go, Go, Go. But that is how I work best.

What are my duties with ProudMouth? I have respectfully been referred to as “task-master.” Organization and process are my “things.”

My role has evolved over the last four years. When I started with the company (then known as Top Advisor Marketing), I was part time and was hired to

coordinate schedules, basically. And then I started publishing podcasts –– when we had nine clients. That has since evolved into so much more; I still do some scheduling but more on the side of making sure that the schedule and our project management tool align properly.

I produce and publish all ProudMouth and client podcasts, do a bit of editing, work on special projects and happily will back up the account managers or COO Lisa Ferguson when required.

What do you enjoy about working at ProudMouth?

The personal growth I’ve gained.  Learning to be flexible, trust in myself, that I am not alone here, and that if I have their back, they have mine –– “their” meaning any member of the team. I also enjoy the team itself. We all know we have a job to do, but the laughter and special notes and support make it all that much better.

It truly is a place where I feel cared about.
And, the fact that the corporate pressure to perform isn’t a reality at ProudMouth. By that, I don’t mean that we don’t have to do our jobs. I mean there isn’t the pressure that I’ve experienced at previous jobs. We can work at a pace that is comfortable to each of us while still maintaining our deadlines.  The executive team, in fact the entire team, not only knows we are human but accepts that human things happen and there is no shame or guilt involved. I believe that this environment promotes harder work and more willingness to help

out than the “9-5 punch-in, punch-out” that the normal brick-and-mortar offices do.

Switching gears a bit…what’s on your desk

right now?

  • Always a Tim Hortons large tea…or three
  • A scratch pad to take notes
  • 3 mechanical pencils
  • Water
  • My planner
  • Brain from “Pinky and the Brain”
  • Hidden under my desk is usually a box of crackers

What’s in your mug right now?

I wish it was a hot cup of tea, but it is usually a lukewarm or cold tea. I’ll drink it anyway.

What’s a digital tool that you use every day?

I always have my phone with me.  ALWAYS.

If you had a podcast, what would it be about?

That is a hard question. I have a bit of knowledge about a vast amount of things. I don’t think I would be able to have a podcast that was singular in topic; perhaps “What’s Keeping Me Sane This Week.”

I wouldn’t mind being a guest on the podcast idea that my colleague Jennifer Thom thought of during her feature  –– a show for women over 40…lol.

Which podcasts are you listening to these days?

Aside from our client podcasts, you mean? Truthfully, by the end of my day I need to switch gears completely.

I’ve recently been listening to:

Which TV shows and movies do you enjoy?

Anything that has a bit of a dark mysterious undertone. I don’t have cable TV so anything Netflix that fits in that description:

  • “Dark and Mysterious”
  • “Snowpiercer”
  • “Behind Her Eyes”

What’s your secret to staying so organized?

I’m old school.

I write things down. I have task lists, and I cross things off when I’m done. I break things down into blocks, projects, weeks, days, and hours. I also have a planner and use it. Plus, I use the tools that are available to me, either apps or notebooks and pencils.

And, I ask questions. If I’m unsure of something, I follow up. If I am concerned about a deadline being reached, I either ask for help or find out if someone else needs help.

Which client success story excites you? Why?

There are so many stories that I’ve been a part of over the years. But, most memorable to me is when I published Tim Scannell’s 50th episode of “The Wealth Stream Podcast” and Royal Standley’s 50th episode of “The Life By Design Podcast.”  Both of those gentlemen and I started with Top Advisor Marketing at the same time. They are the first clients I had involvement with from the start.  It was thrilling that they had hit such a milestone.

In your day-to-day experiences at ProudMouth, what moments make your heart feel warm and fuzzy?

It always warms the cockles of my heart when I see team members step up to help other team members, knowing full well that each one of them already has a lot on their to-do lists.  That, and when a team member shares a personal success.

How do you encourage team collaboration at ProudMouth?

It’s important to me that everyone knows that we are a team, and together as a team, we can figure anything out. Having each others’ backs and contributing to the success of ProudMouth overall is a team effort. There is a balance with the team that has been curated on purpose. We all have our special qualities.
